According to the Act, the LAPF supreme governing body is the Board of Trustees that comprises of 10 members. The Chairman of the Board who is the Permanent Secretary to the Ministry responsible for local government

Other members of the Board includes:-

  • A Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance or his/her representative
  • A members representing the Attorney General
  • Two members representing the Association of Local Authorities of Tanzania (ALAT)
  • Three members representing the Tanzania Local Government Workers Union (TALGWU)
  • Two members appointed from among persons with experience in social security, financial matters, or business administration, one of whom is from the private sector.
In running the day-to-day activities of the Fund the Board is assisted by a Director General who is appointed by the President and who also serves as a Secretary to the Board of Trustees. The Director General is responsible for organizing, planning, controlling and coordinating activities of the Fund in accordance with the policies, strategies, programmes, plans and guidelines established and approved by the Board.
